Bright truck of frogs

Just a blog documenting my time with the yellow truck of Frogs and Fun.

New skill time - PDR

So spent some time on the YouTube’s since someone decided to take a fist to my Subaru 😔

watched a lot of paintless debt removal videos and as my Fun has a tow bar shaped dent in the tailgate I have something to give it a go on before deciding if I’ll repair the Subaru or get a pro in to do it

in all fairness my tailgate dent had already broken the paint so this was never going to be a great repair, but I’m impressed so far..

Finally new foglight

After several attempts at getting a replacement fog light through the mail system without damage I finally managed to replace my broken one

New screen for CarPlay

My cable tied screen has been working well but the viewing angles and the lack of brightness control needs to be addressed. so I got the official Pi 7" touch screen.

Laser cut some 3mm black acrylic to make a surround I now have a much nicer fitting screen. but while its out im going to see if I can make the boot time shorter and add some extra functions like automatic brightness control,

and fitment in the truck

Practical Pickup

We are fitting some vinyl to my brothers very clean Integra,

So I made the pickup a mobile vinyl cutting machine and it did great at it. has made me wonder what other mobile environments I can turn it into. Coding office, Phone/tablet repair centre, Base for county marathon..

Updating the ICE in the heat

Been very warm in the UK so hiding in the coldest part of the house and making my Raspberry pi powered CarPlay stereo.

using the base code from https://github.com/rhysmorgan134/react-carplay
a Pi 4, 7" screen, USB audio card and a cheap amp for now to just get the concept working

then just cable tie it into the gaping hole I've made in the dashboard, I don't smoke to the lighter and ashtray have been removed for more screen space

while im here this looks like a great place for a Mac Touch Bar inspired interface. remove the buttons and have an interactive pixel'y display.. added to the ideas page

Scout camps done, now time to clean

Last few weekends have been occupied but today I finally got around to cleaning/polishing (most) of the bodywork

I only really gave it a quick polish to see what I have to work with but it came up great. some of the fiberglass needs some repairs, luckily I know a guy that can point and laugh at my attempts then can hand over to him to do properly, but for now its shiny and looking brilliant
